Putu Sutawijaya was born in 1970 in Indonesia. He graduated in 1998 from the Art Faculty of Indonesia’s Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. He received the best Fine Art Award from ISI in 1995 and was cited as one of the Top 10 Best Artists in the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards Indonesia in 1999. In 2000, he received the Lempad Prize from Sanggar Dewata, Bali. Sutawijaya has actively participated in numerous exhibitions regionally and internationally since 1989, among others are: Indonesian Artists at Chouinard Gallery Hong Kong (1999), Asia Contemporary in London (2000), Dermensch Als Mass at Der Kulturen Museum, Basel (2001). His solo shows were held at Gajah Gallery, Singapore (1999); Chouinard Gallery, Hong Kong (2000, 2002); Chouinard Gallery, Chicago (2003); Valentine Willie Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur (2006) and Sin Sin Fine Art, Hong Kong (2007).
